043: After years in District Two, Gale finally returned with his small family to Twelve. On his son’s first day of school, Gale pointed to a little girl with two braids and said, “See that girl? I wanted to marry her mother, but she ran off with a baker.” Later that day in music assembly, the teacher asked who knew the Valley Song. The little braided girl’s hand shot right up in the air. She stood up on a stool and sang the song for entire class. Every bird outside the windows fell silent. And right when her song ended, just like his father, he knew he was a goner.
